Seasons and Areas Fished
Seasons
Our season begins by mid-April fishing the herring runs in local rivers that can start the season
off with double digit numbers of stripers.
By the end of May, large stripers and some bluefish are present in the Sound in good numbers.
The summer months of July and August are the time of voraciously feeding bluefish and stripers.
By the end of August, bonito are also present. False albacore begin to show up in September and
increase in numbers through the fall. September and October are a thrill to fish because of large
numbers of all species and make us glad to be on the water.
Areas Fished
We fish the rips, ledges, islands and shallows of eastern Long Island Sound from the
Watch Hill reefs of Rhode Island to Orient Point, New York and as far south as Montauk in the fall.
The presence and types of bait change throughout the season from herring and squid to bunker,
butterfish, tinker mackeral and a variety of silverside and anchovies.
